As moms, we understand how deeply sentimental we can become as soon as baby arrives (or more like as soon as we find out we're pregnant). No detail is too small or insignificant, no memory is unworthy of documenting. We love journals and baby books that are beautiful and practical - ones that we will keep for decades to come and that allow us to express ourselves our own way. Some of our favorites are from Promptly Journals, MushyBooks, Baby Boy Bakery, Artifact Uprising,
NEW MOM BOX
We don't mean to toot our own horns, but we put together a really beautiful New Mom Box that we think any new mom would be thrilled to receive. It contains two sets of bamboo nursing pads from Creekside Kid, one natural nursing salve from MinErbs, one postpartum sitz bath bomb from Three Sweet Petites, and one wooden nursing necklace from milksource, and it's packaged up beautifully in a matte white gift box and wrapped with a bow, so they're perfect for gifting.
Look on any new mom's camera roll and you'll be hard-pressed to find a photo that isn't baby-related. And can you blame them? We love the trend of documenting baby's growth and milestones with weekly or monthly photos, and we absolutely love using props like Letterfolk or wooden blocks from Little Sapling Toys or Bannor Toys to be a special part of those photos.
If she plans on breastfeeding, beautiful, practical nursing clothing is a great gift to show that you support her! Nursing, especially in the first few weeks, can be a challenge - especially when you have to fumble with your clothing to make it work. We've been so excited to see a rise in nursing-friendly clothing options that make it super easy (while not sacrificing style) to nurse wherever, whenever. Some brands we think are getting it right include Honeysuckle by Hannah Hill, Allette, and Loyal Hana.
Not necessarily specifically mom-related, but we think (safe, non-toxic) candles are a great way to create a calming, relaxing environment, which is especially important during the postpartum recovery period. Our co-founder, Cristina, owns Riles and Co. and hand-pours all-natural, non-toxic soy candles free of phthalates and additives, so they're safe to burn in your home and around your family. Needless to say, we're big fans!
While this may not be the case for every mom, we suspect many basically live in their robes and loungewear for the first few days or months. They're comfortable, nursing-friendly and so incredibly cozy for all of those long nursing sessions, mid-day naps and baby snuggles. We say treat the new mom in your life to something extra luxurious like this cashmere robe from Hatch or these beautiful robes from Pretty Plum Sugar.
We cannot encourage a photo session enough. Whether it's a newborn session, a lifestyle session or a nursing session, having professional (or just non-cell phone) photos is such an incredible, life-long gift. We're sentimental, remember? Our co-founder, Evian, is an incredible photographer - you can check out her work at Evian Granitz Photography and get in touch with her if you're in the Hoboken / Jersey City / NYC area! If you're in the New England area, we cannot recommend enough My Motherhood Storybook.
We personally find so much pride in being moms, and that pride often manifests itself in the form of artwork on the fridge and motherhood messages on our t-shirts. We absolutely love Deck and Oar, Bee and Mae, and The Bee and the Fox.
